Trichoceros tigrinum
- Common Name: Fly Orchid
- Family: Orchidaceae Juss.
- Country of Origin: Peru
- Habitat: terrestrial orchids on steep hillsides at high elevations
- Description: This bizarre miniature species is pollinated by "pseudo-copulation." Its flowers apparently resemble an extremely attractive female fly. Confused (or desperate) male flies attempt to mate with the flower and in the process get pollen stuck to their bodies. When one of the males meet another flower, the process of pollination is completed. Several tiny flowers are produced in succession on a single stem in winter and spring.
