    To 40 feet; leaves broadly ovate, peltate, to 8 inches long, usually cordate; flowers greenish-yellow; fruit black, dry, about 1.25 inches in diameter, involucel much inflated, whitish, pear-shaped, to 2.5 inches long, with a large apical opening.
