  • Common Name: Shrimp Plant
  • Family: Acanthaceae Juss.

  • Country of Origin: Mexico
  • Habitat:

  • Description: [Syn. Beloperone guttata, Drejerella guttata]

The array of arched salmon to rose-pink or pale yellow bracts surrounding the white flowers of this attractive, evergreen shrub resemble a shrimp, hence its name. Reaching a height of 3 ft (1 m) and a spread of 24 in (60 cm), it flowers mainly in summer.

It can survive temperatures as low as 25°F (-4°C) by behaving like a perennial when the tops are frozen back. A weak, sprawling plant, it needs regular pruning.
