  • Common Name: Clock Vine
  • Family: Acanthaceae Juss.

  • Country of Origin: India {specifically, Mysore, India}
  • Habitat: evergreen climbing vine

  • Description: This evergreen, woody-stemmed climber comes from tropical mountains in the south of India and thrives in frost-free conditions similar to that of its homeland. It reaches 20 ft (6 m) and has narrow green leaves. The pendent flower spikes are a cheerful combination of brownish red and yellow, and appear from spring to fall (autumn).
  • Culture: Plant in full sun or part shade and train up to a strong structure. Cold hardy to 25-30 degrees F. This vine is fantastic for a high pergola where the pendant flowers can drip down to be viewed from below. Sweet nectar is produced in copious quantities, attracting hummingbirds.
